Holy Week at First Church

Palm Sunday, April 9 at 8:00, 9:15, & 10:30am

Our ongoing “Conversation with God’s Word” does not have us reading the Palm Sunday story in April.  Yet on that day, the people cried hosanna to the Son of David.  And we are reading these days about the sons of David: the royal line that reigned in Jerusalem. And so we’ll find that 2 Kings is not a bad place to think about Palm Sunday.

 Crown Of Thorns And Nail

Last Supper Drama, Thursday, April 13 at 7:00pm

The Last Supper Drama, directed by Dave Zochert, will be re-enacted by First Church members. There will be communion distributed by the disciples mid-drama and a request for silence following the re-enactment of Christ’s crucifixion.

New Sky Hill Of Crosses 1

Good Friday Service, April 14 at 12:15pm

The old spiritual asks, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”  Does that seem like a silly question to ask of people who weren’t even born until centuries after the event?  Yet the slaves who sang the song were in touch with a great truth.  And so, as we contemplate the Lord’s crucifixion this Good Friday, we will ask, “Were you there?”

3 Crosses

Easter Services, Sunday, April 16 at 8:00am & 10:00am

What if it’s not true?  What if Christ was not raised from the dead?  Paul had an answer for that.  He said that if Christ has not been raised, then “our preaching is useless and so is your faith, you are still in your sins, and we are more to be pitied than all other people.”  But Paul knew that it was true, for he had seen the Risen Lord.  And if it is true, then what does that mean for us?  The good news answer to that question will be our high focus this most glorious day of the year! Childcare will be provided, no Sunday School.
