QUOTE OF THE WEEK
There is, after all, no table like it. This table reaches from that upper room in Jerusalem all the way through cathedrals in Europe and America, to the place where you will next take the sacrament. This table is revered in mud hut churches in Africa, where people speak the sacred words in languages you and I have never heard. It has often been set up, in crude fashion, in the darkest pits of confinement, where people imprisoned for their faith in Christ have saved a fragment of bread and a spoonful of water just so they can say, "His body. His blood." And they do it with a triumph that shakes the dungeon walls ... So I ponder that once, long ago, there was a table, where thirteen men sat ... But who could have imagined that night that where thirteen sat at the table, hundreds of millions would sit at the same table, two millennia later, everywhere on this planet. And someone will say, "The body of our Lord. The blood of Christ, shed for you." And in that moment, eternity will break in upon human souls. At a common piece of furniture called a table, you and I will eat a crumb of bread, we will drink from a cup, and for that moment, all of the company of heaven will observe in splendid awe. Such a table! Such a table!

This Sunday
Worship together as a family this Sunday, February 5. There is no Sunday School for children in 1st-12th grade. There will be Sunday School for the little ones in the lower level and childcare will be provided.
This Sunday is designated as "Scout Sunday" where Scouts will serve during worship services and host the coffee fellowship time. Be sure to stop in the Gathering Area for some spectacular monkey bread!
SOUPer Bowl Sunday
This Sunday, February 5, bring in soup and canned goods to support the Good Will Place Pantry. We will again have a competition between the FUMC fans of the Super Bowl teams (Giants and Patriots, in case you've forgotten) to see who can collect the most!

Serving on Sundays
"Christian hospitality actively invites, welcomes, receives, cares for and shares the richness of Christ's love with all...We are an anchor for faith where all feel at home. Every guest received is like welcoming Christ. Our culture is one of participation rather than one of spectatorship." Our volunteers confirm this statement on Sunday mornings in so many ways.
Does the right opportunity exist for YOU to serve during any of our three worship services? If you can contribute, please contact Amy Dennis or indicate your availability on the You Can Count on Me insert. We are especially seeking people to usher (9:15am), greet (10:45am) and serve as audio or video techs (all services). And, we are looking for help in coordinating Sunday morning schedules. Thank you!

Updates on Rev. Scott Carnes
Scott Carnes, former Youth Director here in Green Bay, has recently shared updates regarding his health. He is scheduled to have neurosurgery on Monday, February 6. Scott and his wife, Carrie, will keep Scott's twitter feed updated while he is in surgery, during his hospital stay, and during his recovery so that we, part of his church family, can be a part of this process with them. If you would like to check in on Pastor Scott's condition, go to http://www.twitter.com/scotteugene79 and watch his feed. You do not need to "sign up" or "become a member" of twitter.

Discovering First Church
If you are new to the faith or to this church, we invite you to attend our 4-week study, Discovering First Church. From 9:00-10:30 a.m. on Sundays, February 12, 19, 26 and March 4, you will have the opportunity to gather with our pastors, staff, church members and guests to explore our church, our history, our missions and ministries, as well as what it means to be a member of First United Methodist Church, Green Bay. Please RSVP to Amy Dennis if you plan to attend.

Active Seniors to take a field trip
Active Seniors are hitting the road! For the February meeting, on February 9, the Active Seniors will meet at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Corps Center 1315 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay, WI 54311) to hear a presentation about the Salvation Army. Lunch will be served there and the charge to our Active Seniors will be $5 each. Please arrive at the Kroc Center by 11:30 a.m. If you need directions or transportation, please contact Lina Green. Good Will Place Fundraiser
The Good Will Place Pantry is hosting a Valentine's Spaghetti Dinner and Auction on Saturday, February 11, at 5:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Cost will be $5.00 per person or $10.00 per family. Come join us and do your Valentine's Day shopping while supporting our local mission. We have something for everyone: A 2011 Team-signed Packers football, sterling silver heart necklaces and earrings, Barnes & Noble gift cards, many area business gift certificates, etc.

Evelyn's Book Club
Come to the Clarion on Friday, February 10 at 12:30 p.m. for lunch and book discussion. The chosen book is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. This book was also chosen to be the Go Big Read for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Lisa Margonelli in the New York Times Sunday Book Review writes "Skloot narrates the science lucidly, tracks the racial politics of medicine thoughtfully and tell the Lacks family's often painful history with grace... Science writing is often just about the facts. Skloots book, her first, is far deeper, braver and more wonderful." To get a copy of the book, call Chris Hemstreet at 468-7404.
