Denise Myers

Bell Choir Director

Denise Myers has been the handbell director at First United Methodist Church since 1987.  The choir has gone from a 3 ½ octave choir (44 handbells) to a full 5 octave choir (61 handbells) with hard work and generous donations.  The choir has also added a 3-octave set of handchimes to their collection thanks to another generous donor.

Denise was raised in Hartford, Wisconsin and grew up in the former Evangelical Brethren Church, now the First United Methodist Church.  There she learned to play the piano and organ and began playing for church and children's choirs at a young age.  After graduating from high school, she continued her education at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene.  She continued to play the organ during the summer when she was home from college.  After college graduation, she and her husband, John, moved to Albert Lea, MN where she was introduced to handbells.  Denise was the full-time organist at the First United Methodist Church in Albert Lea and played in the Bell Choir for three of the five years they lived there.  They moved to Green Bay in 1986 and were both involved with the bell choir shortly after arriving at First Church.  One Sunday, before the service started and the bells were to play, Don Ott approached Denise and asked her if she would be interested in directing the bell choir.  The rest is history!

Denise and her husband John have three children--Johnny, a 12th grader, Annie a 7th grader and Elsie a 5th grader.

Denise works part-time in Dental Hygiene for a local periodontist.  She is the Secretary of the Howard/Suamico Community of Promise Board.  She makes monthly runs to Second Harvest for the Food Pantry.  She is the Howard/Suamico Referee Coordinator.  She does piano accompaniment for church and school music contests/concerts.  She enjoys going to all her children's sporting and musical events and volunteers at church and school.
