The Reverend Sarah Johnsen was appointed to serve First Church as the co-pastor, with her husband Paul, in July 2004. Her primary passions are planning and leading vibrant worship, writing and deliver inspiring sermons and preparing youth for their first public profession of faith. Outside the church she is active in ministry to and with the downtown Green Bay area. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter. She is a member of the Executive Board of JOSHUA and coordinates the JOSHUA Religious Leaders Caucus.
Sarah entered ministry in the Wisconsin Conference in 1985 serving First UMC, Superior from 1985 to 1987. She was loaned to the Minnesota Conference to serve Duluth: Wesley and Esko: Northwood from 1987 until 1990. In 1990 she was appointed to serve as the associate pastor of First UMC, Appleton. In 1995 she served a two-point charge for one year, Marion and Wittenberg. Then in 1996 she and her husband Paul were appointed co-pastors of the Platteville United Methodist Church. They were in Platteville for eight years.
Sarah was raised in Geneva, New York. She is a graduate of Arcadia University, Glenside, Pennsylvania and Duke Divinity School. She and her husband have two sons. Ben is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. He is a sales and marketing manager for Brookdale Senior Living and lives in Madison, Wisconsin. Ted is a graduate of Drew University and received his Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University. He is the video journalist for Drew University and lives in Madison, New Jersey.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading her Nook. She also reads, studies, modifies and experiments with new recipes. Her family is often amazed and pleased by the results. Sarah also enjoys spending time with her PEO sisters and attending sporting events with her husband.
