Howe Helpers make a difference in children's lives

Howe Helpers is an award winning project which links members of our church as well as other community members with the neighborhood elementary school.  This program places volunteers in the classrooms of Howe School to assist both teachers and students in the learning process.  Volunteers typically spend a half day per week, morning or afternoon, assisting in whatever way possible to make learning easier, especially for children who appear to be at risk.

Volunteers frequently help with reading and math, but are not limited to those subjects.   Volunteers have also helped in the library, computer lab and with Reader Theater.   If a volunteer has particular talents or interests, he or she can work with their assigned teacher to best utilize their skills.

Making the decision to become a Howe Helper is the first step in a very rewarding experience.  The personalized attention given to the students will contribute to their life long education.  We are there to make a difference in their future chance for success.

In addition, Howe Helpers sponsors the collection of Boxtops for Education and bottlecaps from milk products at the church.  These items are then donated to the school.  Each boxtop or bottlecap is redeemed for cash by the school to help purchase equipment or supplies for the classrooms, library or playground.
